More Gi Buying Tips
When you’re getting ready to buy your next gi, it’s extremely important to get the right one for your sport and training needs. This way you’re not wasting money or time, nor giving your opponent any special advantages.
You should know that there are pretty big differences in gis for BJJ, Judo, Karate, and Taekwondo. For instance, a gi for jiu jitsu is made to be more durable and tough than one for karate. This is because in jiu jitsu, your gi will be getting tugged, grabbed, and pulled over and over. Thinner gis, designed more for non-grappling sports, will probably rip and tear.
The same goes for trying to use a judo gi when your sport is jiu jitsu. A gi made for judo will probably be strong enough to take the pulling and tugging, but it also contains extra sleeve material that can give your opponent an advantage. So be sure to buy the correct gi for your sport.
We hope these tips help you with your next gi purchase. Be sure to join us for part three for our final installment on this topic. If you’re ready to starting training in a different type of martial arts, keep reading to see how Gracie can help you.
