Gracie Raleigh Kids Jiu Jitsu

For nearly 15 years, Raleigh families have trusted Gracie Raleigh’s Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program to build confidence, focus, and discipline in a safe, structured environment. To excel in any endeavor, kids need a strong set of values and solid character to persevere and achieve their goals — our Kids BJJ program is built around exactly that, with classes designed around each age group’s stage of development, from ages 4 through 15.

As a sport, our Kids Jiu Jitsu program provides a challenging yet safe and caring environment that encourages children to mature into true champions. The discipline and excellence demanded by our instructors often carries over into a student’s behavior at home and at school.

Ages 4–6 Kids Jiu Jitsu

Building the Foundation

Our youngest group focuses on the “ABCs” of childhood development: Attention, Balance, and Coordination. Instructors use high-energy, structured games to teach movement, spatial awareness, and — just as importantly — the ability to listen and follow directions. This age group builds a “yes, I can” attitude in a fun, non-intimidating environment.

Physical Chess

As kids grow, training shifts from play-based learning to technical precision and problem-solving — what we call “physical chess,” using their mind to work through resistance from a training partner. This stage gives kids real tools for handling bullying, peer pressure, and self-doubt, while building the resilience that comes from a sport that rewards persistence.

Preparing for the Future

Our Teen program meets kids at an age where they’re ready for more responsibility and challenge. Teens train in a blended format — participating in both Kids classes and Adult Fundamentals — so they get structured support while gradually adjusting to the pace and expectations of adult Jiu-Jitsu.

My child started in their youth program and our whole family ended up falling in love with the gym. so much so that I ended up joining the adult program as a total beginner. The community and culture is warm and welcoming. The coaching staff is top notch and has a great deal of depth.

My kid is attending Jui Juitsu classes more than 5 months. We see tremendous changes in our kids confidence. He has improved his fighting skills a lot. Coach Carl especially monitors each kids’ progress personally. He is always patient with kids. Classes are up to 3 times in a week for kids 7+. The waiting area, bathrooms are always clean.

My son and I joined in September ’24. The community and coaches are all as attentive and involved as advertised. It has quickly become a much needed part of our routine. We are both learning to remain calm under pressure and that showing up on days we feel less than motivated often become the best days. I have played many sports and BJJ is a standalone sport as far as its ability to teach you long after you have stepped off the mat. If you’re considering it come check out Gracie Raleigh.
