Debunking More Myths About Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu Is Not A Kids Martial Art
This myth is extremely false. Jiu jitsu is perfect for both kids and adults to learn. Children really gain lots of valuable life skills in Gracie Raleigh’s Junior Program. We teach them self respect, respecting others, how to be a good sport, perseverance, discipline, and much more.
Furthermore, at Gracie Raleigh we have separate classes for children and others that are strictly for adults. This means that you do not have to worry about your child getting hurt from training with a class full of adults.
You Don’t Learn How To Punch Or Kick With Gracie Jiu Jitsu
Traditionally, jiu jitsu training does not incorporate throwing punching or kicks. This is mainly because you can find yourself defenseless with a proper counter attack. However, with Gracie jiu jitsu we go beyond traditional BJJ so you’re well rounded for self defense. The punching and kicking techniques you’ll learn are to be used only when your opponent cannot strike back. We don’t believe in trading strikes, but we do think that throwing a punch or kick can be valuable for setting up a submission.
Jiu Jitsu Is Too Expensive
Yes, taking jiu jitsu classes are going to be more expensive than other forms of martial arts training. You can expect to pay about much as it would cost to be a member of a really nice gym in Raleigh, outside of the cheaper chain business models. However, it should be noted that you always get what you pay for. If you desire a high quality facility, coaching staff, and learning experience, then Gracie Raleigh should be your number one choice.
