More Basics to Fitness

Flexibility and Stretching

To be flexible, you have to also stretch; it goes hand-in-hand. Furthermore, both are key elements for basic fitness requirements. There are also several different types of physical activities and some will require you to be more flexible than others, especially if you are interested in martial arts. If you are not that flexible, then you can get seriously injured trying to throw a head kick.

To improve your flexibility and range of motion, start by stretching. You can also try Yoga, and look online for great videos on the best stretches for your favorite activity.

Core Strength

Having a strong core is another key factor to basic fitness. You’ve probably heard about working out your core a lot recently as it has turned into an industry buzzword for selling exercise related items. Having a strong core will help you with your workouts, and in everyday life as well. Your core consists of the muscles in your abdomen, lower back and pelvis. If they get weak, you will suffer from back and shoulder pain, as well as run the risk of getting injured.

Great core exercises to start out with consist of sit ups, stomach crunches, body squats, and planks. As you master these basic movements, you can increase the intensity by doing variations, or by adding weight.

Balance Is Important Too

Balance is really important to physical fitness and this ability deteriorates as we get older. Even with most forms of physical activity, you need to be able to maintain your balance. If you don’t, you will fall and you could seriously injure yourself. If you’re looking to start boxing classes in Raleigh NC you’ll need to be able to balance your body and your weight to optimize your punches and defense. If you’re curious about practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, balance plays a key role in getting leverage and dominating your opponent.
