Most combat sport athletes believe that competing, or fighting, is 90 percent mental and 10 percent physical. However, most of these athletes train physically the majority of the time. Training your mind to do battle is just as important. If you do not have a tough mindset, you’re not going to make it very far in this sport. Over the course of the next two posts, we’ll be laying out some great psychology tips for you to consider. Check them out below. If you’re searching for the best self defense, BJJ, muay thai, or mixed martial arts schools in Raleigh, NC, call Gracie Raleigh today. Psychology Advice for MMA and Combat Athletes
Brian Cain is an applied sports psychologist. He has worked with some of the biggest names in MMA and the UFC, like three-time former Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and former UFC Middleweight champion Rich Franklin.
Cain says, “The best fighter never wins, it’s always the guy who fights the best,” and according to Cain, the reason is having a strong mental game and mindset. Rich Franklin, one of Cain’s clients, agrees. Franklin said in an interview that “training for a fight is about 90% physical and 10% mental, yet when you enter the octagon it becomes about 90% mental and 10% physical because all of the physical preparation is done.” It’s all about mind over matter.
Your mind controls your body. If your mind is not prepared to go to battle, then you’re not going to be able to execute your game plan.
