More Tips for Survive Exercising Outdoors in the Summertime

Check the Weather Forecast for Heat Advisories

Before you get too far ahead with your outdoor activity and exercise planning, be sure to keep a check on the weather forecast. Pay special attention to the heat index and if there will be any heat advisories. Try to avoid going outside when the heat index is going to be over 105 degrees. This can be dangerous, especially if you suffer from any medical conditions.

Time of Day

If you find that you just cannot stay indoors and must get outside at least once per day, no matter the heat index, then plan your activities during the coolest part of the day. Early morning and late afternoon hours will be the best times of day. Just be aware that early morning hours in the summer can be more humid.

Wear Loose and Light Colored Clothing

If you’re going to be outside in the sun, make sure you are wearing light colored and loose fitting clothing. Black and other dark colors will absorb the light and heat, which will make your body hotter. Light colors will reflect some of the light which helps keep you a little cooler. Loose fitting clothing will also allow for more air flow. You can also wear clothing that is designed to protect you from the sun.

We hope these last two posts will help you enjoy your summertime exercising and outdoor activities. Just remember to listen to your body. If something feels wrong and out of place, stop and assess the situation.
