Perfect Practice Prevents Poor Performance

Also known as the 5 P’s, this is a mental and physical mantra. When you’re training, drilling, or practicing, you have to give it your full attention and maximum effort. Train like you’re already in combat. When you go hard each session, you’ll know that you can fully trust your training. When it comes time to compete, you’ll have high confidence in your physical abilities. You’ll be able to easily give yourself permission to win. If you’re lazy in practice then the exact opposite will happen.

Reaffirmation

In our last post we talked about the importance of believing in yourself. Reaffirmation is apart of that belief. It’s also a great technique for psyching yourself out. Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest boxers of all times. Not only was he great with his hands, he was even better with his words. Plus, he believed every word he said. He once said in an interview that he wasn’t the greatest, he was the double greatest. This type of reaffirmation helped to motivate him. Use this to your advantage. Tell yourself that you’re a winner, and that you can do anything. It might seem silly at first, but the results speak for themselves.

Stay Out Of Your Own Head

Avoid negative thinking. Never doubt your ability and preparedness. If you’ve done everything we’ve mentioned so far, there’s no need to think negative thoughts. You have to get out of your own way and embrace the moment. When the action begins, stay calm and focused. You’ve given yourself permission to win, visualized a winning outcome, utilized the 5 P’s, and you’ve reaffirmed your abilities, there’s nothing else to fear.
