More Reasons Why Kids Quit Martial Arts and Other Activities

Yelling and Overly Critical Parents

There’s a really big difference between cheering and yelling. Furthermore, you can motivate without criticizing. If you’re a parent that constantly yells and tears your children down to make a point, please find a better way. Otherwise, do not be surprised if your child doesn’t want to do any sports or activities.

Overly Competitive Parents

Remember, it’s not about winning or losing. What really matters is that your child tried their best, didn’t give up, and was respectful and a good sport regardless of the outcome. Parents that put too much emphasis on winning can create stressful situations. This also takes all the fun out of the activity.

Fear of Losing

This one is a direct result of having an overly competitive parent. Let your child know that it’s OK to lose. Talk to them about what they think they could have done better. Then congratulate them on the things they did well.

Boredom

Martial arts for kids in Raleigh NC should take on a more fun approach to learning new skills and drilling. You cannot have the same type of structured classes with kids that you do with adults. If it’s all about hard work and no fun, children will get bored quickly.

We hope the information in our last two posts will help you better understand why your child wants to quit an activity you thought they’d like.
