How to Motivate Yourself to Train Hard

Look, even I’ll admit that there are plenty of days that I do not want to go to the gym and train. There are times where just the thought of rolling, lifting, running, and grappling make me hurt. However, I push through because I try to stay motivated. My motivation comes from the willingness to learn more to improve my game as well as the motivation to teach others at our martial arts classes in Raleigh. Below, you’ll find a few of the things that I use to keep going.

The Consequences of Not Training – One big motivating factor for me, and many of our students at Gracie Raleigh, is knowing that there are consequences for not training. Now we don’t mean that you’re going to get punished by the coaches if you miss a class. However, the consequences of not making it to the gym can really have a negative effect on your progress and learning curve. This is especially true for those just starting out in martial arts. The more you skip out on class, the further behind you’ll be. You’ll continue to get tossed around the gym like a rag doll because you’re not going to know how to defend yourself since you lack technique. Good technique comes from training hard and coming to class.

Making New Friends – Another big motivational factor of heading into the gym for training is simple. I really like the people who come out to Gracie. We’re like a big family, and love the connections we get to make training new students as well as being a student and learning from the best in the business. The human interaction and friendships gained are priceless.

Hopefully you’ll have a better understanding on how to motivate yourself after reading today’s post. However, if you still need more motivational tips, jump ahead to part three.
