Probably the biggest story for the American team was Kayla Harrison winning back-to-back gold medals in her weight class. She is the only American to ever win a gold medal in Judo. She came into the event ranked as the number one female in the world for the Women’s -78 kg. After winning, she announced her retirement. It appears she will be starting a MMA career in the near future.

Travis Stevens just missed making history as the first male gold medalist in Olympic Judo. He did bring home the silver medal, which is the first men’s medal since the 2004 Olympics.
